A new jersey, new faces and a new era for Sands MacSwineys

PLAYERS and club members from Sands MacSwineys GFC gathered at Connolly’s Irish Bar recently as the club launched its new kit and thanked their hosts for their sponsorship and support.

The shirt launch (above) also marked a good opportunity for players, coaches and club members to enjoy a social get- together and get to know some new faces as the pre-season training schedule got underway.

Having won the inaugural Junior Championship in 2015, the club are hoping that the experience gained in recent years by homegrown players and products of the extensive underage Gaelic football system in Coatbridge and the arrival of some new Irish-born players will help them continue the club’s efforts to return to that level of success.

“The club were delighted to launch our new kits at the home of our sponsors,” Sands MacSwineys said. “We would like to thank everyone at Connolly’s for their support and for their continued assistance with fundraising efforts such as our raffle, which is still available to enter at the bar.

“We are now looking ahead to the first fixtures and enjoying training once again as a group as we prepare for competitive action.

“With a recent influx of new players we are still looking to welcome any new faces who would like to play at Scotland’s oldest Gaelic football club and would encourage those interested to get in touch.”

The club raffle features as its prize a highly collectible portrait of the late Billy McNeil lifting the European Cup for Celtic.
