GLASGOW Irish Bands and Gigs has played its part in keeping spirits high during lockdown by releasing a new CD featuring artists from all over the world.

The 17-track CD—entitled Lockdown Sessions 2020 (above)—is comprised of a mix of traditional Irish songs performed by artists from Scotland, Ireland, Tenerife and even as far afield as the USA.

The live music industry had its world turned upside down in March, when people went from watching a live band in a bar one night to a worldwide lockdown the next, so it was felt that we all needed something to keep us going.

During lockdown, hundreds of musicians worldwide have shared their music with Glasgow Irish Bands and Gigs and we will be forever grateful for their time and talents that helped us all make it through these emotional and testing times. The page initially shared musicians well known to the Glasgow scene, but as lockdown continued musicians from all over shared their live sessions.

Thousands of people have tuned in to support the live performances and the page has grown as a musical community to get through lockdown, but the positive was the amazing music that provided solace.

The CD is a positive reminder of some amazing musicians who shared their talents, it’s a reminder of the fun evenings adapting to the pandemic and it’s a way of providing some entertainment to those still unable to get back to ‘normality.’

Artists performing on the CD include: Blessed Irish Band, Cheryl Ann Cassidy, Blackstairs Rebel, Erin Go Bragh, Conor McGinty, Sean Magee, Maedhbh Walsh, Myles Gaffney, Elle Marie O’Dwyer, Stephen and Abby Rollin Wave, Karl Byrne, Stephen Dodds, Danny Martin O’Donnell, The Finns, Kieran Byrne, All Folk’d Up and Fergal Flaherty.
