A SPECIAL raffle will offer Scotland’s Irish community the chance to win a house in the Emerald Isle as well as donating to charity in the process
Bryan Gallagher and his wife, Lisa, decided to raffle their beautiful four-bedroom home on Arranmore Island, County Donegal in order to raise money for the charity Pieta, which aims to prevent suicide and self-harm.
“For £10/€11 a ticket, you have the chance to win this house overlooking the Atlantic Ocean,” Bryan said. “It would be ideal for anyone who would love a holiday home or a family looking to own their own property. Choosing to raffle the house will not only give someone a chance to own their own home mortgage free, but will hopefully see us raise £27,000 for Pieta, a charity that has supported our family and is very close to my heart. With the charity’s Darkness Into Light event taking place on May 8, we would be grateful for your support.”
The inaugural Darkness Into Light event took place In 2009, in Phoenix Park, Dublin and saw some 400 people walk 5km to raise funds for Pieta. From small beginnings, the movement has continued to grow, and around 200,000 people now take part in the event annually.
Each year the walk provides an opportunity for people to connect with their local community and to show their support for those who have been impacted by suicide. The dedicated team of volunteers in Ireland and overseas participate annually to make the event a success and to help Pieta continue to raise awareness in the global fight against suicide and self-harm.
This year, as the volunteers cannot gather together at the usual Darkness Into Light venues, Pieta is asking all its supporters to don their yellow t-shirts and take part in the event at a time and in a location that suits them.
So far, the raffle has seen the Gallaghers raise more than £4000/€4500, with the aim of raising £27,000/€31,000 and they themselves will be taking part in the Darkness Into Light event too.
