HIBERNIAN Football Club’s sesquicentennial year drew to a close with a pre-season tour of Ireland and the unveiling of two plaques in co-founder Canon Edward Joseph Hannan’s birthplace village of Ballingarry, County Limerick (see features section).

HIBERNIAN FC supporters have brought the story of their club back home to Ireland to mark their 150th anniversary, with an event in Limerick providing a fitting conclusion to a year of celebrations.

AS HIBERNIAN FC entered the second half of the club’s 150th anniversary season an important landmark took place. January 20, 2026 marked the 100th anniversary of the death of Michael Whelehan, who—along with Canon Edward Joseph Hannan—co-founded the club on the August 6, 1875.
