Connollys have some exciting plans for 2025

DUNEDIN Connollys GFC have started the year on a social footing with some pre-season runs every Wednesday (above).

This is something that the club has been building on since last year and has been greatly successful. Not only does it help shake off the Christmas and New Year’s cobwebs, but it’s also proving a great opportunity for anyone new to the city to come and get involved. It’s been a great way to make new friends and just get kick started with the club.

On March 1, the club will hold its dinner dance where the new and old of Connollys will come together to celebrate the work that goes into the club and the successes of the year.

This year, they will be shaking things up by celebrating the successes of the previous year in The Place Hotel in the heart of Edinburgh. The last few years have been a huge success with this year expected to be no different. Plundering Sons will be providing entertainment on the night.

Connollys’ youth teams have been busy of late with the ongoing Hot Chocolate League —a great idea for these early year games! It’s simply a tournament followed by some

hot chocolate. The Hot Chocolate League has been hugely successful with the club not only having a great turnout from its youth teams, but also fantastic participation from

parents and volunteers which has been tremendously helpful.

Dunedin Connollys’ biggest event for the coming year so far is its Cultural Day. Huge amounts of work are going in behind the scenes to get this day organised for April 5.

The aim of the culture day is to showcase Irish culture and heritage represented at all levels by not only the players, teams and managers at Dunedin Connollys, but the wider Irish community in Edinburgh. The club hopes it can continue to grow not only its name and brand in Edinburgh, but support other groups in doing the same with the goal of continuing to foster a culture of respect and inclusivity.

On the day itself, Connollys will host a sevens tournament, which will showcase talent from across the UK and Ireland. The local community and surrounding clubs and groups will be invited to come and witness Gaelic games and hopefully be inspired to take part themselves. The sevens tournament—which is free to enter—it is hoped, will drive interest and appeal from the wider community and perhaps provide an insight into the passion and skill that drives the growth of the GAA at home and abroad
