Edinburgh Emerald Irish Social Group get people moving

ree

A RECENTLY resurrected initiative by the Edinburgh Emerald Irish Social Group has been pivotal in helping people who have mobility issues.

Jimmy Boyle from the group was on hand recently to present Willie Davy (above)—a pensioner from South Edinburgh, who is recovering from illness and was finding it difficult to get out of the house—with a mobility scooter as part of their Community Charity Fund

“Edinburgh Emerald Irish Social Group started an initiative before the Covid-19 pandemic to assist members of the community that had mobility issues to get mobile encouraging social interaction, including refurbishing donated mobility scooters for their use,” he said. “This initiative was paused during the pandemic, but recently we were approached by the Gilmerton Miners Club regarding our initiative, so we decided to restart the loan scheme and are delighted with the response.”

The group is now in the process of refurbishing another donated scooter and would like to thank the Allison Family from Ferniehill for the generous gesture.

If anyone in the Edinburgh area thinks that they know of someone who would benefit from a scooter loan please contact the Edinburgh Emerald Irish Social Group’s Facebook page or e-mail: Jimmy.boyle65@gmail.com
