QMU Men and Ladies enjoy University Leagues success

SCOTLAND’S University Leagues for 2024/25 reached their climax recently in both the men’s and ladies’ competitions.

QMU won the Men’s League (above) with both QMU and Glasgow going undefeated until the last game of the season, played in Wardie Park in Edinburgh, where the league title was decided. QMU beat Glasgow 2-11 to 2-08 to claim their second Scottish Men’s League title in a row.

The women of QMU (below) were also victorious, picking up the Ladies’ League title for the fourth year in a row. It also meant that for the second year in succession QMU’s Men’s and Ladies had won their respective leagues. They won five out of six games with their one remaining game abandoned due to floodlight failure.

In the second division, Dundee won the Ladies’ League 2 title—their third title in a row. Winning all of their six league games, they will now be promoted to Roinn 1 for next season.

With the leagues finished, the Scottish Universities turned their attention to the British Championships in Manchester and Birmingham this year.

In the men’s competition QMU, Glasgow and RGU travelled to Páirc na hÉireann, Birmingham, but fell short in their quest for glory.

The remaining men’s teams, Stirling, Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt, Dundee along with a new team for this year, University of Strathclyde, all headed to Hough End, Manchester for the Division 2 and Division 3 Championships. The team from the University of Strathclyde picked up the BUGAA Division 2 Shield, while the University of Dundee side took home the BUGAA Division 2 Shield Plate.

The Ladies’ Championships were due to take place as The Irish Voice went to press.
