Upcoming talk will examine the legacy of Robert Emmet

THE 1916 Rising Centenary Committee (Scotland) are bringing yet another free talk to entertain and enthral Scotland’s Irish community later this month.

Grace’s Irish Centre in Glasgow will play host, on Thursday September 24 to a fascinating evening with historian, Gerard Cairns, who will be exploring the life and legacy of Robert Emmet (1778–1803).

For more than 200 years, Robert Emmet has been remembered as one of Ireland’s great patriots and young martyrs, but was he really the brave but foolhardy young man history has sometimes portrayed him as?

Gerard Cairns will explore the man behind the legend including his preparations for the 1803 Rising, his revolutionary plans, his famous ‘Speech from the Dock,’ and the lasting

influence that he had on later generations of Irish Republicans, including the leaders of the 1916 Rising.
