A CLEARER picture is starting to emerge in Scotland’s GAA landscape with regards to who might be taking home some of the early season silverware.
In the Men’s Senior League Final, old adversaries Dunedin Connollys and Glasgow Gaels will lock horns in what promises to be the usual hotly contested affair. The Edinburgh side finished the league unbeaten, topping the group with four wins and a draw, while Gaels secure three wins and a draw, while suffering a solitary loss. However, it will be the draw that took place between the two teams at the Clydebank Community Sports Hub—which saw to-ing and fro-ing on the scoreboard before the game ended 1-13 to 2-10—that will have whetted the appetite for the final.
Tír Conaill Harps will contest the Intermediate Final after securing three wins to top their respective group. Having beaten Glasgow Gaels’ Intermediate side by four points in Cambuslang, Harps secured two impressive wins over Dalriada by a scoreline of 9-13 to 1-04 (above) and then Dunedin Connollys Intermediates, who they defeated 2-15 to 1-06 in Edinburgh.
They’ll either face Stirling Carrigans—who will be desperate to reach a league final in their debut season—or Connollys Intermediates who booked a semi-final spot by defeating Dalriada and subsequently putting paid to Gaels Intermediates hopes of league glory this season. The Glasgow side will be buoyed going forward, however, after an impressive 5-19 to 1-08 victory over Dalriada at Clydebank.
In the Ladies’ competitions, it will be another Gaels vs Connollys final, this time in the Intermediate Ladies Championship, which, as with the men’s competition, will be a fierce battle in the quest for silverware.
In the Ladies Junior League, the Edinburgh side are the team to beat having defeated Tír Conaill Harps home and away and Gaels in Clydebank. Their challenge looks set to come from either Dalriada—who were victorious over Gaels in Edinburgh—or Glasgow Gaels who showed up well in their outing against Connollys in what were atrocious weather conditions.
