THE black and green bands of Ceann Creige is slowly becoming a recognisable jersey in Scotland and further afield—not something to be easily dismissed considering the club was only founded in 2019.
In fact, the club are doing the complete opposite and celebrating. As the only Camogie and Hurling Club in Scotland, there’s already much to celebrate. For a team originally formed for social purposes, both the Camogie and Hurling teams have reached significant highs with their respective teams. The club has become an integral part of Irish life in Scotland and on Saturday May 31, that will be celebrated.
Through the generosity and support of the Irish Consulate and Irish Embassy, a GAA tournament and family fun day is being held at Clydebank Community Sports Hub.
Adult teams in Camogie, Hurling, Ladies Gaelic Football and Men’s Gaelic Football will come together to battle it out to be the winners of their individual codes. Prizes on the day are kindly being donated by Malones Irish Bar, O’Reilly Sports and Martin Hurls.
Teams are travelling from all over the UK and Ireland to play matches, enjoy themselves and help Ceann Creige in their celebrations. It is sure to be wonderful spectacle. The youth sector of the club will also be getting competitive as they play games with their shinty counterparts before enjoying the fun games organised throughout the day.
As advertised, it is a culture day, celebrating the Irish in Glasgow, so music will be on from start to finish, showcasing a variety of Irish musical talents, as well as a DJ, to ensure the fun never stops.
Martin Hurls are also coming across the Irish Sea from Antrim to showcase their wonderful hurls, and much more; including giving a demonstration on hurley making to all those who are interested.
It is hoped more stalls will also be in attendance representing a variety of Irish owned and operated businesses around Scotland. Those wishing to get involved should contact Ceann Creige.
It promises to be a wonderful day suitable for all ages and everyone is welcome. Food, drinks and plenty more will be available on the day. The fun will continue the same evening in Malones Irish Bar in Glasgow, proud main sponsors of both our adult teams. Keep an eye on the Ceann Creige’s social media platforms for more details.
