Ceann Creige reflect on successes

AS WE enter the final part of the year it allows for reflection on what was another successful year for Ceann Creige GAA across all its teams.
Whilst the teams might not have had as many victories as they would have liked on the pitch, the club certainly excelled throughout the year off it.
The youth team saw record numbers of new members join the club which meant more enjoyment for all players. This year also saw the youth team head over to County Down to take part in the Tony Carr Memorial Tournament. The youngsters even got the chance to play on the prestigious Pairc Esler and the club was honoured to be presented the Tony Carr Memorial Cup in recognition of its efforts to grow hurling and camogie in Scotland.
It was a brilliant weekend that players and coaches will remember for years to come. Thanks must go to to all the parents for their help and support in making this weekend possible.
The October break also allowed the club to run its first Hurling and Camogie camp thanks to funds from Glasgow Life. It was an opportunity for some fun and fitness over the October break for members and those who wanted to give hurling and camogie a try. The club looks forward to running similar camps in the future and welcoming more young players to try our wonderful games.
Ceann Creige’s adult teams both played at Senior level this year in their respective sports, which for still being the only hurling and camogie club in Scotland is a brilliant achievement. The games might not have gone the way either team wanted during the sporting year, but fielding a strong team for all competitive games was something the club can hold their head high about. Off the pitch, the senior team were making strides in the community to strengthen the ties between the club and other clubs, cultures and countries.
Some of the adult players and committee members had the privilege of meeting the Irish President, Catherine Connolly, on her recent visit to Scotland. Along with other members of Scotland GAA, there was a great discussion on integration committees between all the sports to ensure the continued growth of the GAA in Scotland, which President Connolly voiced her strong support for.
A word of congratulations must also be passed onto Ceann Creige’s committee members who were nominated for awards within Scotland GAA for their respective roles and contributions to the club and wider community during the year. The club wishes to place on record its thanks to them, and all the volunteers, for their time and dedication to helping the club’s continued success.
The accolades of all the teams on the pitch have been well documented and published during the year. The club now enjoys the time to acknowledge its wins off the pitch and thanks The Irish Voice for allowing us to do so.
As things begin to wind down for the club, it does not mean all events have stopped. The AGM takes place on Monday November 2 to which all are invited. Please keep an eye on Ceann Creige’s social media pages for regular updates on club activities across all its teams.
