Harps and Connollys Ladies enjoy final successes

THE Ladies teams of Tír Conaill Harps and Dunedin Connollys celebrated two great wins in the Scottish Junior Shield and the North of Britain Championship respectively.
Harps (above) took on Dalriada in the Junior Shield Final in a match that started with Dalriada opening the scoring with a goal, before the Glasgow side finally broke through their opponents resolute defence to record some goals of their own, meaning that they took a 4-03 to 1-03 lead into half-time.
Dalriada staged a spirited comeback in the second-half and the Harps defence had to stand strong on a number of occasions. The engines in the midfield and forward areas also proved too strong for Dalriada and frustrated chances took their toll.
Tír Conaill then bravely won a penalty, fighting for a loose ball, which was was expertly dispatched and settled any Harps nerves, cementing the lead. Attack and counter attack showed that the Harps defence were mostly dominating and their forwards were getting more clinical as the match progressed.
However, the match ended with a spirited fightback by Dalriada, which saw a number of potential goal chances blocked, although they did end the match by taking a good point. It was not enough to claw back Tír Conaill’s lead though and the Harps Ladies picked up their first Scottish LGFA trophy winning 5-08 to 3-06.

In Manchester, meanwhile, Dunedin Connollys Ladies (above) showed that it’s not just the men’s side who are a force in Britain GAA as they comprehensively defeated John Mitchels of Liverpool to be crowned the North of Britain Champions for 2026, adding another trophy to the cabinet of one of Scotland GAA’s most decorated clubs.
The Edinburgh women will now have their sights set on a tilt at the All-Britain Championship and will be brimming with confidence after such an emphatic win.
